Mmm. It’s autumn time in Ōtautahi-Christchurch, NZ, and that means the feijoas are back! I just got back from visiting my sister and return with a big bag of fruit from her two feijoa bushes. It looks like it’s going a be another good feijoa year in the city. #nz #fruit #feijoas

When life gives you feijoas, make feijoa muffins. 😀

I found a feijoa recipe online at justamumnz.com and it’s scrumptious.

@joncounts I also really enjoy feijoa fizz from the skins. https://greengoddess.co.nz/how-to-make-feijoa-fizz/ (Must not be washed, it relies on the natural yeasts.)
How To Make Feijoa Fizz - Green Goddess

Make a refreshing fizzy drink with leftover feijoa skins which have a film of naturally occurring yeast which helps them to ferment.

@zeborah Hey now, that’s a great tip! Thanks.

@zeborah It works! I'm finishing off my first batch of feijoa fizz now, made from the skins of feijoas. It is refreshing, with the flavour but not the sweetness of the fruit. Mmm.

Thanks again for the excellent tip.

😀

@joncounts @zeborah ooo - we just discovered one of our feijoa bushes started 'dropping' today... collected a few kg of fruit... looking for something to do with it... 🤔 🍻

@lightweight Feijoa fizz is good for the little ones that have a high skin to peel ratio. Or for the skins left over after the fruit's scooped out. Medium-to-little ones I find are a good size for cutting in half, extracting the fruit in one scoop each side, and dehydrating (for larger ones you have to then cut the scoops in half to reduce drying time).

@joncounts

@zeborah @joncounts excellent (our 'windfall' is all 'small' feijoas)...
