found a pretty interesting documentary abt the NotPetya cyberattack on youtube!! Cybersecurity is mostly gibberish to me but it also peaks my curiosity...
@hottopic_wannabe you're halfway there if you use linux at least lol
@dushman still on windows for now... i'm planning to get linux when i get a new pc (mine barely works so i'll have to get a new one eventually lol) and keep this one on windows just in case
@hottopic_wannabe
Just install like MX or Mint if you want something ez to use and install
@hottopic_wannabe
OpenSuse should also be pretty good for a beginner
@dushman maybe i'll flash one of those into an usb and play around wih it... I can't really make any partitions on my hard drive, it doesn't have enough space, and just erasing windows without having experience on linux 1st doesn't seem like a good idea lol
@hottopic_wannabe
Install Ventoy on the flash drive so you can choose from several isos when you boot it up. It also allows you to just copy the iso's to the flash drive once it's is installed. It boots Windows, Linux, BSDs and a bunch of other OS's just fine.

Ventoy

Ventoy is an open source tool to create bootable USB drive for ISO files. With ventoy, you don't need to format the disk again and again, you just need to copy the iso file to the USB drive and boot it.

@hottopic_wannabe
Handy for trying out several ones if you're not sure what to install just yet
@dushman that sounds awesome thank you!! I have an old laptop laying around I'll play around with some linux distros on it :)
@hottopic_wannabe
It can be installed from Linux or Windows and some other systems. Btw when it comes to desktop environments I'd recommend you try KDE, Xfce or Cinnamon. Those should be pretty familiar if you're coming from Windows.
@dushman noted! Thank you so much!!
@hottopic_wannabe
I'm a big Linux nerd and I do all the backend stuff here so if something doesn't work just hmu
@hottopic_wannabe
I'll almost definitely know how to fix any issues you might have
@dushman alright, if I have any troubles I will!! :D
@hottopic_wannabe
For that hmu on xmpp, I'll respond faster there.
@dushman @hottopic_wannabe Personally: Ubuntu or Debian, newest version of either.

Mint is still easy and less bloated plus cinammon is more similar to windows
