"I should have seen this coming," says David Brooks. The senior NYT opinion writer is shocked, SHOCKED!, that Trump is a gangster. What a damning indictment of the media & the American elite. Absolutely shameful.

'Moral shame': Why Trump's second term is 'making the globe a playground for gangsters'

YouTube
David Brooks gets paid serious bank to have his finger on the pulse of America. But he somehow missed Trump's criminal past, the impeachment trials, J6, and the 34 felony counts? He's just now coming to realize that Trump is a criminal? Most New Yorkers were aware long before Trump came down the escalator in 2015. That's 10 years ago. I once admired America. But the entire leadership class is corrupt & complicit. Appalling.
The silence of American CEOs on Trump's tariffs is also damning. Another example of the American leadership class going MIA. They knew--and they said nothing.
The fact that MSNBC ran a flattering interview of David Brooks as if he's some kind of political guru is also an indictment of the American media. Where is Sarah Kendzior when you need her? Kendzior would have Brooks for breakfast.
@WilliamRobert She predicted all of this in detail years ago. Of course, no one listened.
@dnelson Right -- the damning this is the predictability. They all knew. And they did nothing. The university elites, the business elites, the media elites, the political elites. Nothing at all.

@dnelson Kendzior hasn't said shit about David Brooks since that one time in 2014. I'm guessing she stopped because she was still getting occasional spots on cable news shows.

If you want regular takedowns of Brooks, read @driftglass.

Of course, he's not a member of The Club, so you've never seen him on any network or cable "news" program or quoted in WaPo or the NYT.

@Axomamma @driftglass I was not referring to her commentary regarding David Brooks, but rather her prescience relative to the series of events that would transpire if Trump was elected. In that regard, she did pretty damned well. Others can deal with Brooks.

@Axomamma @dnelson

Thank you for the vote of confidence. People who warned about this course of events years ago were mocked and shunned as crackpots by the legacy media. Ironically, the pundits who did that mocking shunning all still have jobs. For example, here's a prediction from almost exactly 20 years ago...

@WilliamRobert -

Her book was titled "They Knew"

I truly believe people in theBiden admin were complicit and am now registered as an independent.

@Clint I'm sad to say I agree with you and I don't see how anyone reaches a different conclusion. The Biden administration did some good things--but failed to restore the rule of law. Merrick Garland was a disaster.

@WilliamRobert

I read "Hiding in Plain Sight" as well but was hoping for the rule of law to be restored and that Sarah might have missed something. I volunteered for campaigns but the damage from misinformation was too great. The lack of prosecution had a lot to do with the results of the last election. After the election I realized Sarah had been right all along.

@Clint @WilliamRobert

I can't really prove this, but just as someone who is interested in campaigns ( i grew up watching msnbc and obama ran first time when i was 18 )

I'm quite convinced that the Biden admin were protecting trump and shielding him from the consequences of their criminal actions, Biden's campaign manager said in late 2023 " We want trump to be the nominee, we poll better when trump is the nominee "

Doing the exact same "pied piper" strategy that got Trump elected to begin with. This on top of them spending all that money on MAGA candidates, they bragged about how well this worked in 2022 ( tho these sucesses were probably unrelated to this entirely )

I am already quite radicalized from a young age ( thanks Obama for selling out so quickly ) but the idea anyone would put US democracy in such danger by elevating such an unhinged freak as part of a 'strategy' is deeply distrubing

@big_louse @Clint I agree--it is a disturbing prospect. But to quote Sarah Kendzior who predicted so much of this, "The truth hurts. But the lies will kill you."
