Dear Americans, a quick reminder that you are loud. Smell the room when you're abroad, please.
The ferry was quiet, you couldn't hear a single conversation. Two American couples came onboard and... There goes everyone's quiet time, the whole space is now occupied with their conversation.
🤦‍♂️

#Americans #Muricans
@DavidBHimself unacceptable they take French their jobs away like that
@DavidBHimself Gah!!😡
@sister_ratched They were not obnoxious or anything, just "naturally" (well, culturally) loud and not realizing everyone around them was quiet.
@DavidBHimself So very typical.
@sister_ratched For the first time in my life I'm dreading the upcoming art festival. There were already so many foreigners on the islands. We're on weekday and the festival hasn't started yet, there shouldn't be any. (but I think it's Easter vacation in Europe right now, I'm just not sure what these two - relatively - young couples were doing here, they didn't know each other and met on the island).

(now, to be honest, the only Western foreigners that are problematic here are Americans, and only because of their constant bull in a china shop behavior - we don't really get any uncultured ones, although I was almost hired to be a guide to a family I think is one of Trump's biggest donors - I'm glad the travel agency didn't pick me in the end, maybe they did a background check ;-) )
@DavidBHimself Ha, a close call!! Well anyway, I hope the art festival is not too infested with obnoxious Seppos. I'm glad the rest are well behaved. My son and his partner were there a decade ago, and I'm sure they were well behaved. 😃
@sister_ratched Aussies can't hide (they're probably the most visible Westerners somehow) but they're always well behaved.
@DavidBHimself Why visible? The awful accent?
@sister_ratched Taller than average, especially women, they're giants in Japan. And always dressed in a very colorful way (literally, three different and vivid colors seem to be a minimum on an outfit)
It's not that USAers are loud, necessarily, but they are trained very intensely to not read the room, and lack empathy for others in general.
@cy@fedicy.us.to It's definitely both.
I can spot an American from afar just by the way they move, but Americans are definitely louder than most other nationalities too.
Yeah I said necessarily because there are a lot of regional and class cultural differences. Go to a bar in Portland/Seattle, they have to have music playing or you could hear a pin drop. That... doesn't apply in Oklahoma. The antisocial "mind your own business" "I got mine" "personal responsibility" "friendship is gang activity" "caring is for pussies" stuff is nationally enforced though.
