I'm starting to watch the 30 day supercell composites on the weather sites. My storm chasing trip in 30 days away, so it's good to get a rough idea of a starting point. I'm flying to the plains this year instead of driving the whole thing. Forecasts and the like this far out can vary wildly but at least I'll have a sense of trends to work from.

If the storms don't fire up, there's plenty of other things to do out there. I'm making this trip a whole adventure with a focus on making videos.

And I am really resistant to chasing east of I-35 again this year. I did not enjoy my chase to Des Moines last year. Too many trees. I might go in the direction of Little Rock if the situation arises, but I'm even iffy on that. I like having wide open spaces where I can easily see what's going on.

Godspeed to the storm chasers that go all over Dixie Alley. That's just not my jam. #stormchaser

And lastly, I'm trying to find storm chasers to follow here on the Fediverse. I know a lot of have moved from Twitter to Bluesky, but I was really hoping to find a good number of folks on Mastodon and such. With resources for NOAA and related in question, it's good to get as much information from boots on the ground as possible. I'll follow Bluesky but I'd rather follow Mastodon. #stormchaser #stormchasing

@jp

Another way to try might be hashtags for current named weather events. Mumpkin.

@jp I don’t know if @ai6yr does storm chasing, but he does have weather bots and has a lot of emergency info
@gannet @jp Yes, lots of weather bots at https://m.ai6yr.org/public/local and https://bots.krohsnest.com/public/local -- plus some weather folks here on this server.
