Indigenous people will always say ā€œI belong to the landā€, while colonizers claim ā€œthe land belongs to meā€. That is the fundamental difference.

We used to have much more "Allmende" in Europe (common ownership of land or a resource), but of course that was stolen in most cases by "the high and mighty" (Allmende-Raub).

And the Allmende-Raub continues - e.g. in Germany the right to pump ground water is often sold to private companies, even if there is not enough and normal people living in that region are in the risk to get restrictions.
