the internet didn't make me trans but it did make being trans a hell of a lot easier
@deilann the internet made me
@tjhexf nah, i've heard about your doctor's notes, you've been a baby kitten all along
@deilann okay true you're right i completely forgot about those
@tjhexf that's okay remembering things is hard for baby kittens
@deilann i actually requested an abridged version of the diagnosis so employers dont have to read "napping is her favorite hobby" when deciding if i deserve disability benefits
@tjhexf but then they might give you napping accommodations
@deilann I didn't think about that....
@tjhexf Workplace nap accommodations are an actual thing by the way - it's usually for folks with narcolepsy who best manage it with midday naps, but structuring an employee's schedule to allow for napping is a real accommodation.
@deilann wait..
whoa

this made me google narcolepsy and i think everything makes sense now
@tjhexf Seeing a sleep specialist isn't a bad idea especially if you have more than just excessive daytime eepiness.
@deilann this could be why i cant survive without mid day naps
@deilann i mean it, i either need a lot of caffeine (thanks amy for getting me coffee so i can survive uni days) to delay it, or i absolutely need to nap so i can get some energy back mid day. It's not uncommon that i fall asleep mid class a few times and its just sorta my life
@tjhexf Yeah, no, that's something definitely worth talking to a sleep specialist about. There are a few things that can cause issues like that, but the inability to control falling asleep like that, is something I've had a hard time even explaining to people because it's so far removed from their understanding of how sleep works.
@deilann it got incredibly worse on ssri's, to the point where id just fall over sometimes and sleep. im not on them anymore so it's more manageable, but its still a problem
@deilann i did talk about it to my last psychiatrist, who wanted to prescribe me melatonin as she thought my problem was a lack of sleep quality, but I got terrified and said no
@tjhexf Honestly, I'd look at a referral from a GP if you can - a psychiatrist is more likely to not think about it in terms of potential sleep disorders, in my experience.
@tjhexf SSRIs actually are sometimes used to treat narcolepsy off-label but a lot of people report them making the excessive daytime sleepiness worse, which they did for me.
@deilann yeah they made it absolutely unbearable. like ungodly unbearable. id just constantly be a zombie

@deilann It made it much easier to figure out that I'm trans.

Without the Fedi trans community, I'd probably never have known what the dots were, never mind connected them.

@KatS See, that's the funny thing. I know that's true for a lot of folks, but for me it literally was zines and books that put the pieces in order for me.

But the internet made it a lot easier to be trans. I now knew what to look for on Web 1.0 to find information and support like FTM guide which I love for preserving itself in its Web 1.0 glory.

Then, as the internet progressed, it became easier and easier to find community and that - that is what kept me alive through hurdle after hurdle I've faced.

Hudson's FTM Resource Guide

This Guide provides information to female-to-male (FTM) transsexual men, their friends, and loved ones. Intersex, transgender, genderqueer, and questioning people welcome.

@deilann

The Internet did not turn me trans.
Very High Frequency electromagnetic radiation turned me trans.

@burnoutqueen I say it was zines to further the trans agenda, but you know how folks think the Jewish Space Lasers are to cause forest fires?

Yeah, no, that array has been up since I was a kid and I was definitely transed by it.
