Smart Appliances -- the main use case isn't directed at the consumer.

The owner's needs are irrelevant to the manufacturer.

The main use case is 3rd party data brokers. In other words, it's spyware.

Appliance manufacturers, like car manufacturers, & games makers before them, have become addicted to these post-sale revenue schemes.

They make money selling you a product, then make money off you, by selling data about you.
