*opens outlook app on android*
Outlook: "Hey press this big bright button to consent to using this as your 2nd factor auth... Or I guess you can click the see other options link"
Me: urgh I guess see other options. I like my TOTP standard at the moment
Outlook: "Hey want to get tricked into installed Microsoft Edge on your your phone!"
Ffs. Why is using tech a constant fight.
@xssfox because the tech companies are publicly traded and that means that they need to constantly grow. So to constantly grow they need one of a few metrics, one of those metrics is downloads or users or watch time or…
Basically, tech is no longer for your benefit but for the benefit of shareholders.
@xssfox Adobe Acrobat Reader almost forcing you to login just to read a pdf on Android now. FFS. The average user would find it hard to get around

@xssfox i kicked the outlook app off my android phone when it started injecting bing search into the system menus with no option to disable that particular "feature"
@krishean @xssfox when Amazon was doing this to me someone said it was linked to the "picture-in-picture" permission for some reason.
I just use outlook lite, its only bs so far is regularly nagging me to use it for SMS too

@rileywd @xssfox asking to be used for unrelated functionality makes it sound like malware, just like altering system menus for advertising purposes (bing search), i don't think i'd install outlook lite either

i just use outlook web in a browser if i need access to it for some reason when i'm not at a desktop

@krishean @xssfox yeah... the infuriating state of commercial computing these days
