Attorney General Pam Bondi directs prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione
Attorney General Pam Bondi directs prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione
they need live babies to they can become dead soldiers
— George Carlin
More workers than soldiers at this point
I have a friend who studies behavior but applied to employment systems. Tons of research there on getting the most out of your employees. This sounds terrible when you first hear it right? But when you read it it’s about not burning out staff with reasonable quotas and demands, using positive reinforcement, building morale, etc. basically that you might decrease output slightly now but you’ll increase retention of the staff and the staff will overall be much more satisfied
They reject this in basically every industry even though it’s evidence based. It’s easier to burn people out and churn through workers. Meanwhile humanity stays poor and miserable for the most part (aside from a small percentage that makes out like bandits)
In this case it’s just the rich punishing a plebeian for daring to challenge them, in the hopes of they make his punishment terrible enough everyone else will be too scared to rise up.
But in answer to you astute observation that the ‘pro-life’ people love the death penalty, the reason is simple: to these people, being ‘bad’ isn’t something you do, it’s something you are.
So to them it’s not a break in internal logic at all. They gave the pure, innocent baby a chance, but they turned out to be a Bad Person, so they must be punished, because that’s what you deserve for being a Bad Person.
This is why they favor punitive jailing and killing criminals instead of trying to reform criminals; criminals are Bad, and so they will always do Bad Things.
It’s also why they do stuff like try to get rid of abortion. If a woman got pregnant from ‘sleeping around’ then she’s a Bad Person and deserves to be punished by carrying the child to term.
Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson – an innocent man and father of two young children
Innocent man my ass
19 and 16 are “young” children? Not to mention the fact that he was separated from his wife and his contact with them was limited. Unlike with hundreds, if not thousands, of parents he killed with his policy of denying coverage.
The obvious fellating of the ruling class by the mainstream media is annoying as fuck.
It’s my understanding that this will make it far more difficult for them to get a conviction/verdict. Going for the death penalty has certain bars to hit during a trial by jury. It’s often why prosecutors go after lesser sentences on things people absolutely did the worse versions of. This gives them a much more likely guilty verdict from a jury.
By doing this, they’re basically torpedoing the case, as I understand it.
Purely to try and scare people/send a message.
When he’s rendered a verdict of not-guilty for the crimes that would lead to the death penalty, but is guilty of something relatively trivial, like “owning an unregistered firearm”, this could come back to bite them in the ass.
But who knows. I’ve been hoping for the judicial system to bite the ass of fascists for almost a decade now, without much luck.
That’s true in state crimes, but federal prosecutions are actually very different.
Federal prosecutors have a lot more room to argue and in general the court tends to favor the prosecution much more.
The judge is responsible for sentencing (and Trump appointed a lot, guarantee he gets a Trump judge), while discovery is much more restrictive against the defendant.
Oh that piece of shit, does she not understand this will make matters worse?
She will turn him into a martyr, this administration is the dumbest I have seen in my whole fucking life.
murdered someone and that’s not ok.
Innocent until proven guilty.
Whenever I think of the Dylan Roof incident.
The death penalty isn’t a punishment, who really learns from it, the criminal? It’s a tool for society to remove what amounts to a defective person (not human, person). People are supposed to value the lives of other people by default. Any sustained deviation from this norm is a symptom of a person who cannot value life.
Dylan Roof was given 1000s of opportunities to demonstrate that he did actually value life but because of his defective nature there was no choose but to remove him.
“Life in prison” can be canceled/pardoned/changed, death cannot. That is why it’s near impossible to make it happen and even if it does, people spend the rest of their lives waiting for their “execution” (ftr Dylan is still alive at this time source).
Now in what possible world would you be able to convince a jury of random peers, or judges with their heads actually screwed on tight, that a sample size of one murder proves that a person is defective.
Genuine responses only:
Unlike the serial killer Bryan Thompson who used indiscriminate means of murder which not only brutally killed his victims but destroyed their loved ones lives too with all of the collateral damage.
Bryan Thompson is the mass murderer here, Luigi allegedly stopped the murderer in a way that put no one else at unnecessary risk.
No. They want to take away a martyr.
How long is the average stay on death row?
And how long is the memory of the average american voter?
You and me will have moved on to the next battle and ten other battles by the time they shoot him. Collective memory will have other priorities and we will forget.
Thats the trick. The appeals process alone takes so long that you will either be completely lost by that point, or your disinterest shouting support for fifteen other vigilantes, that it wont matter.
If they convict, hes fucked. Hes not a martyr. Hes a statistic. And thats how they convince the next one not to do it. You are not joan of ark. History will treat you not as a savior, but as a wildcard random… So why bother? A healthcare ceo is not franz ferdinand.
We arent there yet…
“Life without parole” vs “the death penalty” hold a different connotation for the average person.
Its about perception. Not logic.
The death penalty had never really made sense for 80 years. Basically ever since we eliminated firing squads or the guillotine. Ever since we said, “guilty, kill em now, move on”
But we hold execution in a much higher regard. The death penalty is certain. Life in prison… well thats ambiguous. We are still fighting a culture war on the death penalty for literal decades now, despite the fact that it makes absolutely zero difference to anyone not directly involved in the crime.
The actual, logical, real world difference is minimal. But if you want to send a message. Well then, the perception is magnificent.
Sentenced to death has meaning. Until you drag it out so long everyone forgets.
Is it about perception or making people forget? I don’t think it makes sense to have it both ways, the perception created by a death trial keeps this in people’s minds and runs contrary to making people forget.
If they wanted to memory-hole him they should have just shot for a long sentence, like 40 years or something. Life ruining but ultimately uninteresting for the average voter. By sending a message they force people to remember; “Oh yeah, a CEO got murdered on the street. Wasn’t that cool?”
The working class in America are so docile and subdued at this point that they won’t notice when all this happens.
Death penalty would take several years to happen and by then people will have forgotten. Only a couple of remaining groupies will make a fuss.
Yeah well I think I don’t have any real viewpoints which is also a viewpoint I guess. I just adopt things based on a whim or need. One day a commie, another ancap. Do these words mean anything anymore
I guess all that counts at the end of the day is how well off you are and clear conscience and the paths to achieve that are myriad
There is nothing honest I can say about Luigi because fundamentally I don’t care. Some American drama, another one in the long streak of news. There is no hate, there is no love. The only constant is indifference
Let’s talk about something interesting for once like color theory or classical paintings.
if ideologies feel like temporary costumes, maybe the real focus is the pragmatic pursuit of well-being and a clear conscience. The modern news cycle thrives on manufactured stakes, and indifference might just be the sanest response.
Don’t you all not feel burnt out from the constant outrage?
Let’s talk about something interesting for once like color theory or classical paintings
No
Some American drama, another one in the long streak of news. There is no hate, there is no love. The only constant is indifference.
Don’t you understand this is the precise mindset that is powerless to resist fascism and in fact sets the table for it?
The point of the firehose is so you stop caring, congratulations you did it! Do you want a medal?
