morbgot the cheapest 10Gb media converters I could find after someone brought them to my attention.
they're not complete junk and haven't caught fire yet so that's a plus
have yet to get fiber sfps to play along
DACs and multigig sfp+ modules "just work" though
sleepy duck pond appreciator 🦆✨🏳️🌈@morb can you see how it's wired the non-data pins? i'm wondering about rate select and tx disable. maybe they're passing rx_los to the tx_disable? dacs won't have such logic, but AOCs might.
@morb rx_los is usually driven high by the optic when optic is not detecting power, and if tx_disable is driven high by the host, the optic should shut down it's output
@morb iirc tx_disable would also shut the lasers if it's left open on good optics, but i'm not 100% clear on how a crappy one would behave here
