The Turing Way invites you to submit your application via this Google form to participate in the upcoming Book Dash event taking place online from 20-21 May 2025. Share out events will be on 22 May 2025. The deadline for submission 20 April 2025! ------------------------------------------------------------------ This form is open for: - First time Book Dash attendees who have previously interacted with the project or community to send in their application describing where/how in the project and community they would like to contribute. - Previous Book Dash attendees to express their interest to participate again as contributors and/or mentors. (Book Dash mentors will be facilitating other attendees' contributions in one or multiple of the contribution sessions based on their interest and availability. They will also be supported in chairing a session if they would like to.) πŸ‘‰ This application will likely take 30 minutes to complete. You can use this template document with all the questions to prepare your draft: https://tinyurl.com/tw-bookdash-template. πŸ‘ˆ ------------------------------------------------------------------ Book Dash - Background and details: The Turing Way Book Dash is a collaborative event where you'll work with others to add to and improve The Turing Way book and become a part of its community. Read details about the Book Dash in The Turing Way Community Handbook. We will host online contribution sessions (collaborative co-working format) and at least one social networking session from 20-21 May 2025, and two community share-out events on 22 May 2025. See details. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Who should apply? "Everyone has something to share - That’s the special sauce of the project." -- The Turing Way Impact Report, 2020 Everyone in research (across academia, industry, government) have expertise that The Turing Way project can benefit from. The skills and contributions that we're looking for include, but are not limited to: - tools, methods and case studies from reproducibility in Data Science - science communication skills: skills in writing, editing and/or exciting interactive communications - project design and management skills - approaches and principles for collaboration in data science - collaboratively writing new chapters - reviewing others contributions or editing the current chapters - updating how the book looks online (for example, website design, CSS, logos, layout) - documenting other contributions as illustrations or stories I haven't attended a Turing Way event before. Can I apply to Book Dash? We highly recommend that you know a bit more about us and how we work together (on GitHub, in community calls, and with the community) before applying. Join a Collaboration Cafe, get started with ongoing discussions and chapters on GitHub, or message/email Anne (Research Community Manager, [email protected]) if you are stuck. We also have two videos that were prepared in October 2023 to help with the application process: - Tips for applying: https://youtube.com/watch?v=yM2890OCOKk - Application walk-through: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZG-KxZzOGXo Will I have to take time off or away from work/other duties in order to participate in Book Dash? Participants will be expected to attend at least one coworking session (2.5 hours each) per day virtually. They will NOT be asked to block the entire two days for this event, but flexibly plan their schedule as per their availability and comfort of your timezone. I have other questions! Where should I ask clarifying questions before I send my application? You can write to The Turing Way core staff members by emailing [email protected]. You can also join us at Collaboration Cafe on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 15:00-17:00 UK time (in your timezone). The Turing Way Research Community Manager hosts these calls and provide space for Q&A in the main Zoom room where you can ask question about the application process. Here, you also can meet other members of the community, and learn more about their work. ------------------------------------------------------------------ EVENT LOGISTICS Selected participants will be able to choose from virtual contribution and social sessions most compatible with their time zones and schedule.
