Drowning in the sea of bad news was a slight positive tidbit: wayland-protocols 1.42 (released last week) includes support for tablet relative dials. See e.g. the XP-Pen ACK05, Huion Inspiroy Dial2 or 2025 Wacom Intuos Pro.

With that we have the three underlying bits in place: libinput, libwacom and wayland-protocols. Compositors and toolkits can thus now finish implementing this.
