I walk by a school yard that has a disappointing amount of snack litter blown up into the shrubs and such. It makes me sad.

It's too much for me to pick up, but I can't shift the Marge Simpson grumbles of disapproval at the state of things.

In an inspired moment of clarity today I realized I could pick up one piece every time I walked by. It allows me to feel like I am responding to the need, but not swamped by it.

@vlrny Oh, I like your idea! There is litter everywhere but if each of us picks up just one piece, once a day, it is an improvement.

@vlrny

Litter picking up is one of the most quietly inspirational things one can do, I think. It absolutely demolishes the voice of despair which asks what we can possibly do.

It won't save the world by itself, but it's a foundation.

As someone who lives by a public road... it was not something I thought of pre-purchase...

But it sure makes me sad about how many people hit a chain fast food joint 5 miles away and toss their sack out, as they go around the corner here.

Find a garbage can you idiots!!

@JohnJBurnsIII

Oh wow, that's truly assholish behaviour.

I bet those people would object strongly if someone were to slash their tires, too. And yet it's basically the same thing: how do they want the physical environment around them to be treated?
