The US military is sending the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance from its home port of San Diego to operate off the west coast (presumably of Mexico) to "support actions at the southern US border."

Lat week, the Navy sent another guided-missile destroyer, the USS Gravely, into the Gulf of Mexico on a similarly described mission.

Both destroyers will be accompanied by US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments.

Another Navy destroyer that fought in Red Sea sent to southern border

USS Spruance left its home port to support efforts to "restore territorial integrity" at the southern border, US Northern Command said.

Interestingly, the USS Gravely, is named in honor of Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely, Jr, the 1st African American Admiral in the US Navy. Among other firsts, he was the 1st African-American to command a Navy ship (the USS Theodore E. Chandler) on Jan. 31, 1961. He was also the 1st African-American to command an American warship under combat conditions, the USS Taussig.

I suspect Pete Hegseth will be re-naming this ship as part of his racist war on those who have served.

Years ago, when I was studying for my #COBOL cert, I attended a lunch where Rear Admiral #GraceHopper spoke. I lost my souvenir nanosecond in one of my moves, but I remember the lightbulb moment when she said picoseconds were the size of ground pepper bits.

I'm having a get-off-my-lawn moment. Storage wasn't cheap. It mattered *how* you did things because you were constrained by RAM, and execution time, too.

I'm afraid to look for Hopper on any official website because I don't want to see a 404-compliant page.
