I think my favorite story format is the miniseries. It lets characters be explored more deeply thus tell a richer story than a movie can, but still constrains the time so it has to remain on point without a second wasted (given good story and writing of course).
An extremely well done example of this is the crime drama "Long Bright River" that I just binged. It's suspenseful and emotional, every scene has purpose, it's beautifully shot and tightly edited, the music is great (and not peppered with licensed songs).
And I just love its main title sequence.
Finally something besides Severance that pulled me in. The only recent-ish one I can compare it to is "Sharp Objects". Though different, both made a vivid (and lasting) impression, which is probably the ultimate measure.
