Today we went to the Clunes Booktown Festival outside Ballarat. It is $10 entry for a host of stalls selling masses of second-hand books. You can also buy new books at author and publisher stands. They have author talks as well.

Each year we buy a whole year's reading at this Festival. I still have quite a few left over from last year's festival so limited my spending this year, but again, I have picked up some great new and second-hand books.

It is on again tomorrow. It is a great day trip from Melbourne, Ballarat and surrounds.

I love the 'lucky dip' book stalls. Each year they try different innovative ways to sell books and get readers to read different books. I haven't unwrapped the one I bought from this stall yet. They wrap the books up nicely, have a brief description and Good Reads rating (not sure how many people use that nowadays). They also include a teabag, some bookish stickers, a pen and a printed cardboard 'reading log' with a picture of books to colour in on the back.

The festival has plenty of live music ranging from school bands, music from around the world and various styles. At one of the entrances they had a young bagpiper playing with an old accordionist (is that a word?). On a balcony on the main street they had a woman playing an amplified viola on a balcony.

It is great to see the festival support up and coming musicians as well as a diverse range of musical styles.

Internet is terrible where we are staying in Ballarat atm. It was almost non-existent in Clunes. It is always news if the internet is working at this festival - note the exclamation mark on the sign.

Hot tip for all planning to go tomorrow - bring cash!

Apparently some of the original Mad Max movie was shot in this tin shed in Clunes. Tonight they have a viewing of the movie in the shed. Outside they had renovated cars and motorbikes from the era.

If you are a Mad Max fan you can probably provide better commentary on this photo than me!

@perkinsy I can tell you that that’s Max’s first car in the film, with the official cop livery, with which he plays chicken with the Night Rider.
@perkinsy (…and presumably Goose’s bike on the left)
@wonkothesane Thank you! Here are the back of some Mad Max vehicles, including the one in the previous photo

@perkinsy I am quite jealous now.

On the left is the shaggin-wagon that gets terrorised by the Toecutter and his mob.

I think that that’s Toecutter’s bike, but not sure.

@wonkothesane I am not sure where you are, but presumably you could not drop in to the festival at Clunes for day 2 tomorrow?
@perkinsy Oof!! I actually could, but have food festival plans.
