I am on my way to the #BernieSanders #AOC rally in Denver at the capitol. The bus I am on is standing room only and every bus stop along the way is packed with people headed to the rally. This is going to be a massive event. The mood is pretty energetic in here, with a lot of younger and many older people excited to be a part of a historic event.
There is one entrance to the #BernieSanders #AOC rally in #Denver, on Broadway. The queue to get inside the rally area completely encircles Civic Center Park. There are thousands of people queued up who probably won't get inside before the rally starts. Overflow spaces are also filling up; I'm camped at the Greek Theater at the south side of the park. It is exhilarating to see so many people here. So much shared grief and frustration at the destruction, and at the inaction and passive timidity of elected officials, and also joy in community and solidarity.

There was an absolute SEA of people, at least 25,000 in the entire civic center area. it's hard to show or even explain the scale short of using a drone to take an aerial photo. Here's one that was shared by a friend who was standing on the third-floor balcony at the Capitol, a block away. People filled the venue and every available open space for two full city blocks in every direction. And the crowd was FIRED UP not just because of the Republicans, but because they are angry that corporatist Democrats aren't defending the country, either.

@threatresearch the radio was all "don't go anywhere near downtown in a car because you'll be there for a very long time"
I'm glad a ton of people showed up
@smellsofbikes apparently we all wisely decided to use public transit
@smellsofbikes @threatresearch We drove because we couldn't get into the Greeley event. It was worth it

Great, now go visit your local ICE office or Tesla dealership instead.

These polite protests have -gotta- be more than just a pep rally.

@nullagent Appreciate the spirit, but I'm getting a lot more involved in helping my community than just standing outside for a Tesla Takedown. I just don't post about it here.
@threatresearch my son was there and sent me a video! AOC!
@threatresearch Yet, that is a very small number of people for such a huge cause. Compare the 25,000 at the Denver rally to the 111,000 who show up EVERY Saturday for a University of Michigan football game. That’s a big stadium, but it is just one team among all the football games that day. Rallies like the Bernie/AOC event need to draw a million people before they will have an impact. They have to be loud, angry and #disrupt a city for days.
Who were you going to it with? Any friends?
