There is no space for racism in the EU. Or anywhere.

No one should be denied a job, home, or opportunity because of their race or ethnic background.

The EU stands united against racism, for a fairer Union where inclusion and equality are at the centre.

Today, on International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and every day.

@EUCommission "Sometimes" though - but only sometimes ;) - we do keep people out of EU based on their ethnicity, origin, religion.
So yes you are right, there is no place for racism in the EU, we kind of do outsurce the racism to our borders.
So we make more than a equilibrium in not tolerating racism inside, consequently implementig it outside.
We are living the EU-racism-yin-yang so to say.
@sylvanmartiset @EUCommission not sure what you wish to achieve with your cynicism. But people arriving on boats to Europe are entitled to request asylum and many do get it (some don't, because they're not in a situation where it's justified). There is no discrimination based on race, but non Europeans whichever the color they have, need to follow specific procedures in order to be able to work in the EU (just like literally in every other country on earth). Hope this helps.
@bossito @EUCommission only that, someone from Canada, US any "western" country, you name it, can get into the EU, and people from non first-world countries often can't.
So what is it if not discrimination by origin? Poking the finger into EU hypocrisy is what I wanted to achieve with my sarcasm, wouldnt o so far to call it synicism 😉
@sylvanmartiset @EUCommission people from Canada or US, white or black, can visit the EU without a visa. Me, a EU citizen, need a visa to visit Angola, Algeria or China. Each country is sovereign to decide which nationalities require or not a visa, frequently on a reciprocity basis. No country has zero entry restrictions. Hope this helps, but I'm losing my hope on you.. this is quite basic real world stuff.
@EUCommission Yet, unfortunately there are bad actors (like VOX in Spain) that always spread their racism propaganda using fake news and disinformation. I hope the #EU wins this fight.
@EUCommission nice post, nice message, thank you! Enjoy how nice and friendly the Fediverse is 🧡 💛 💚 (supposing this post is not going so well on hellsite)
@EUCommission unless they are on a boat between EU and Africa?
@egonw @EUCommission not sure what you wish to achieve with your cynicism. But people arriving on boats to Europe are entitled to request asylum and many do get it (some don't, because they're not in a situation where it's needed). There is no discrimination based on race, but non Europeans whichever the color they have, need to follow specific procedures in order to be able to work in the EU (just like literally in every other country on earth). Hope this helps.
@EUCommission Ok, fine. Let see what's happening in Hungary, full EU member state.

@EUCommission

AGREE!! Men should have the same rights as women!! White the same as black and heteros the same as LGBTQ+1-whatever!

#UnionOfEquality

@EUCommission Thank you. Because here in the USA, we have gone backward about 80 years, and racism is out in the open again, virulent and deadly. And the felon’s regime is leading the charge.

@EUCommission It would be nice if Europe weren't terrified of 'the horde' ie the Outside World.
Watching refugee boats sink because some of us are terrified of Brown People and think they're all terrorists.
Remind me which continent terrorised the world for hundreds of years during Colonialism?
Yes, us.
Do we want to end up like the United States?
Then get over our inherent European xenophobia
@EUCommission Conversely, here in the US we celebrate Give A Bigot A Gun And Some Rope Day.
@EUCommission so how you gonna deal with discrimination and freedom of speech in Germany?
