For anyone that wants to know how to make good rips of DVDs and Blu-Rays, for either preservation and archiving purposes or for adding to your own streaming server, NAS, or whatnot, I wrote up a handy guide on how to work with Handbrake and MakeMKV to get those rips!

@LambdaCalculus It would be wiser to use MakeMKV to rip to an actual MKV with only the needed tracks at step 1 (that’s what this SW is really good at), instead of creating a decrypted backup and selecting afterwards in Handbrake. Also, storage space is so cheap nowadays, why bother with reencoding at all, you will probably regret it in the future.
libaacs is not needed on Linux, in fact, MakeMKV does provide a drop-in replacement for its own decryptor, but this needs to be manually symlinked.
@LambdaCalculus cool! I just recently set up Automatic Ripping Machine but it'd be nice to know how to do things manually in case something goes wrong
@LambdaCalculus Um, you don't mention quality settings at all. I wouldn't presume the default settings are optimal for everyone?
@thedoctor The default settings for video are good for a balance of quality and size. You can, of course, set them to whatever you want.

I'm gonna look at this later, thank you
