@mcnado My suggestion: when you upgrade your laptop or phone, try to keep your previous one. They're now burner devices for travel. Before visiting the USA, wipe them completely—restore to factory-clean state—then configure with only things you wouldn't mind the Gestapo rummaging through. Separate SIM in the phone, load only contact numbers you need for the trip. If you want to follow social media, create a new account and don't post content of your own through it.
