I want to move away from google and gmail slowly. It seems prudent to get a domain of my own, so it becomes possible to change email provider in the future, without changing email address.

Do you have your own domain that you use with email? What to think about in selecting one?

@elhult I've had good luck with Migadu. Cheap if you're not sending/receiving a large volume of email.
@elhult I'd probably just get a .se domain if I were you. They're short, and the domain seems to have a relatively good reputation - I don't see as much spam from there as some other countries.
@elhult I'm using FastMail with my own domain. Cost effective and fully featured.
@elhult I did exactly this a few years ago. I went with loopia because my account is tied to my personnummer and I can log in to their portal with my BankId. Their portal is nog good, but I can do everything I need there.
@ygram very good advice. Tack!
@elhult A good idea. I’ve been doing it for about 20 years. I use Hover for the domain and Fastmail to provide the mail facilities. Works great and the Fastmail web app is pretty good.
