I miss message board format.
I think we peaked between the message board format and the rise of Twitter.
Bring back the website with the message board attached for fans of whatever is going on there. Let’s start over.
@ErickaSimone agreed, my peak Internet was GameFAQs message boards before Game Stop bought the site.

@ErickaSimone
They still exist! I'm on one!

You can just start one. It's not too expensive. 20 people that mostly know each other talkin' about stuff. Go for it!

@ErickaSimone 100%. I’m down for this.

@ErickaSimone

My social media now is down to the fedi and a fan board for a Scottish soccer team that I follow, because the latter is well moderated and has a strict no abuse policy. It's a much smaller kind of internet experience and I like it.

@ErickaSimone Discourse. It’s easy. But yeah. I think we’re headed back in that direction generally.
@ErickaSimone Well there's https://www.tdpri.com/, which is mostly old white dinosaurs talking about Fender Telecasters in all their vintages, shapes, permutations, and countries of origin. Discussions of politics and Covid are banned, so it is all pretty chill. Not hip or cool, but the dinosaurs are international. You wouldn't like it at all, but such discussion boards do still exist.

@ErickaSimone
Message board fans should take a look at @nodebb . The newest version (4.0.x) federates, so you can boost fedi posts into the forum, follow subforums and respond to threads from masto/friendica/whatever.

They have a long history as a message board, so that part is really solid. The fedi part is still under development, but already very useful.

@niels @ErickaSimone @nodebb

Yeah! Been using NodeBB to run our message boards for years — so good! — so am so pleased that they're federating 😍

Engaging with federated content in a classical message board has been an absolute trip. This is admittedly kind of weird, but nodeBB v4 actually takes my breath away sometimes, and feels like magic.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like once the ActivityPub integration matures.

@niels @nodebb this makes me happy inside.
@ErickaSimone YES, i think we try ro revive it with Lemmy. #lemmyBB bring this look and feel back from the 2000s. We can rebuild

Replying from Nodebb forum!
Yes, nostalgic about those old phpBB boards, they might have been slow and clunky,
... but everything worked! haha
