If a legal resident commits a crime there is a process to detain, try, sentence and possibly deport them. It happens all the time. But that is not what is happening here. They arrested and detained an American without due process.

That was kind of the critical issue going on. There was this whole movement to get some kind of course change on Israel. Biden made it clear there was a higher chance of Trump changing course on Israel. Kamala insisted she would not change course from Biden.

If it falls through again in a week or two, I have more faith in the Trump administration to potentially bring peace again than in the Biden administration. Biden was unwilling to use any serious leverage in order to get the Israeli government to stop the genocide.

Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, is the one who brokered the ceasefire deal. He imposed a meeting to Netanyahu in the middle of Shabbat and told him the peace deal was going to happen, no way around it. Biden had over a year to do this and refused to apply meaningful pressure on Israel.
