What I fear (and start to see) is how anti-Trumpism (which I deem good) extends into anti-Americanism (which I deem bad). This is the protofascist playbook. Don't fall into the trap of demonising all people solely based on where they live. We need to support the resistance against (proto-)fascism everywhere and, IMHO, especially where it (protofascism) is gaining influence. That includes our friends in the US that try to fight too.

@jwildeboer Yes, indeed!

Demonising people based on where they live is wrong for the same reasons doing that based on skin color, religion, sexual orientation etc is.
What I suspect is driving such behavior is, amongst other things, a subconscious desire to feel superior to others. It seems rather obvious in some cases, like political contexts (left-vs-right, left-not-sufficiently-left) or in tech. (OS wars, editors, etc).

@jwildeboer sure, but it's hard to differentiate when more than half of its population wanted this orange baboon as their leader and still support him to this day..

@jwildeboer trump won the popular vote. This uneducated population is beyond hope, lmao. Being against today's America is good because the USA we have today is a rotten corpse of a nation it once was - education is screwed, no labor unions and extreme materialist beliefs are being massively exported to other countries corrupting people abroad too.

And nobody does anything to solve it.

@jwildeboer As an American, I do wonder if treating all Americans like Trump will help accelerate pushbsck on him. Real people need to feel the pain caused by his actions. We're far too insulated from the consequences.

What I've been wanting to see is for countries to stop allowing American air traffic. Grind things to a halt.

@jwildeboer
Letโ€™s please also apply the same logic to Russians who are struggling to find a way to fight against putin. Iโ€™m a USAn in Ukraine who supports the Russian opposition, which makes my Ukrainian friends roll their eyes. I firmly believe that lasting change will only come from the Russian people themselves, just as recovery from the horrid turn of events in the USA will only come from USAns. Meanwhile, some USAns and Russians are trying very hard to make things better. Donโ€™t let perfect be the enemy of better.

@jwildeboer

So to say: Bring the colorful revolutions back to their roots and support the free people to fight against the fashism and feudal dictatorship of Trump, Musk, et al.

Probably the rest of the world is not able to spend the billions to invest in regime change & NGOs.

But seriously: I see one problem of the US in its exceptionalism and its feudal libertarism, that forces people to lie.

IMO anti-libertarism and anti-americanism are not the same, but this might be misunderstood.

@jwildeboer is this anti-Americanism? "Anything that can displace American tech is good."

EU Search engine incoming: Ecosia is teaming up with Qwant to build a European search index - Lemmy.zip

For the people who have not yet decided on a search engine. The most EU way you can go is Ecosia or Qwant as they are building their own search index. Ecosia is my personal pick as its also aimed at planting trees and they have quite a good browser alongside it.

@jwildeboer

Whether I agree with you depends on what you mean by "anti-Americanism." If by "anti-Americanism" you mean people hating all Americans indiscriminately, then I agree, that is bad. If by "anti-Americanism" you mean people hating the American government and culture, then I disagree with that being a bad thing. The American capitalist government and culture are what caused Trump to be elected, and it should rightfully be hated.
