You spend 1200 on a Samsung phone and they won't allow you to turn off notifications from the Galaxy store that sends you advertising notifications. You also can't disable it. Or even change the battery optimization.
@thelinuxcast yeah, the least obnoxious android right now is GrapheneOS with a eww pixel.
@thelinuxcast At least you got your money's worth of advertising. πŸ˜†
@thelinuxcast The right way is: spend waaaaaay less money on 1-2 year older model; put Lineage/Calyx/GrapheneOS on top of it; enjoy your private and secure smartphone experience 😌
@nickelson @thelinuxcast i just did that last month and I really recommend it 😁
@thelinuxcast wow, forced advertising on a device I rely upon for day to day use? I'm out…
@thelinuxcast yeaaaaah, I advised The Mrs. against it but she DGAF about ads, etc. To me, it is baffling. Other people have their choices and I have mine, ya know.
@thelinuxcast that's the kind of thing you'd find out right away. Anyone encountering that must return it for a refund.
@thelinuxcast This is why #Pixel devices are the way to go when it comes to #Android on high-end phones. All you need to do is replace the launcher (in my opinion the Pixel launcher is one of the worst launchers out there).
@dirk Except that I've had horrible luck with the Pixel lineup. The 7 Pro got so hot using some apps I couldn't hold it.

@thelinuxcast Oh no 😦 I have great luck with mine (coincidentally a 7 Pro).

Something is rattling on the inside now, after a few years of having it, but the device runs perfectly fine. No overheating, no other issues and it’s not getting hot.

I’m using #SmartLauncher since over a year now.

Good lord ... #SmartLauncher for #Android is simply awesome.

@dirk I'm using smart launcher too. Nova got really buggy
@thelinuxcast @dirk isn’t nova essentially dead now?
@thelinuxcast Can it be uninstalled via adb?
@thelinuxcast I too have a phone that is loaded with garbage that can't be disabled or deleted (at least mine is a cheap Xiaomi one).
I don't want to do the equivalent of installing Gentoo on my phone. I spend enough time dicking around with my computer and I just want an appliance.
@thelinuxcast A Samsung phone loaded with apps that can't be deleted pushed me to pick up Linux, change careers, throw most of my social media accounts in the fire, and officially put on the foil hat. Get rid of it and get your sanity back.
