Accidental Tech Podcast: ATP Tier List: Corporate Logos

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

@atpfm I don’t think I have ever heard “Coke” outside the US. I hear “Coca-Cola” or “Cola”.

And the “Coke” logo looks like it would be the logo for a US congress representative’s campaign in the 1980s. It’s that boring. It only lacks a blue line somewhere.

Also, the x-height is *so* high.

@ahltorp @atpfm it’s Coke in Japan

@elryry @atpfm You are right in that Coke can be used in Japan, but I’ve not heard it very often. The use I feel is normal is コーラ(cola), but there are some cocktails where Coke is used in the name.

Even Coca Cola themselves have very few mentions of コーク(Coke) on their product pages, they use コカ・コーラ(Coca Cola), and Coke seems to be used mostly for Japanese puns together with “chicken”.

I very rarely hear someone order it, though, so my oral use data might not be that good (or regional).

@ahltorp @atpfm I’m in Tokyo now and many of the drink vending machines say Coke…
@elryry In Sweden the cans have said both “Coca-Cola” and “Coke” since at least the 80s, but no one has ever said Coke.
@ahltorp well for some context, I’m from Virginia and everything that is carbonated is colloquially “coke” there 😂
