@gruber big fan of your work - so please take the following as the positive notice it’s intended to be! ‘Spaz’ is quite an offensive term over here in the UK relating to disabled people, so it jars when seeing it written down. I know the context is different in the US, but when read from a UK context it ends up changing the tone a great deal. Not trying to police speech or anything, or be a ‘snowflake’ just making sure you know the wider meaning of that word over here. Keep up the great work.

@leecomley A few Americans sent similar notes, and I welcome them all, including yours. But I chose that word deliberately, and I meant it to be offensive. Offensive to Musk.

I would no longer use “spaz" to describe, say, an awkward but good-hearted kid.

But I did intend for it to convey offense toward Musk personally. I think we should be careful about offensive words, but I disagree with the notion that offending a target is always wrong.

@gruber fair point - and I appreciate your response :)

@gruber @leecomley

John, I see you used the word deliberately but I am still disappointed. I do not think you will offend the target but by deliberately bringing it back into conversational use you will hurt many readers, this one included.
