Meetup.com has lost their minds, didn't they? 10 USD a month to see who will be attending events, and to get a Meetup Plus badge.

This is just to attend, not to organise anthing. 🤪
In a world where most meetups are dead.

@charis nothing like charging extra for things that should be included
@charis As a woman who has memorised who is problematic and wants to avoid them, I rely on checking who is attending before I commit to certain meet-ups. Now I simply ✨ don't attend at all ✨

@Anneke @anarodrigues @charis meetup.com is consistent in being a huge shit show. Since forever.

Few years ago I thought that their inability to do deliver good UX was because they were super understaffed. Then when they were acquired by Wework, I saw their team photo: https://www.meetup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/meetupdate_allstaff.jpg

Now all they seem to care about is squeezing as much money out of folks as possible, which is a logical consequence of this announcement: https://www.meetup.com/blog/the-next-chapter-of-meetup/

The big problem is that there is no alternative with the same success in making people aware of + driving them to a meetup.

Colloq was an alternative for a while but never got traction.

:/

@charis VC wants its money back …
