check out the ifixit coverage btw, including their masto thread.
very nice of the "repair your stuff" guys to post long justifications about how improved performance is worth sacrificing the ability to repair anything. very normal.
@valpackett @jacqueline then I guess your sample size is N β€200, thus too small to be considered scientifically accurate.
All it is is #AntiRepairDesign that'll shaft buyers like on #Apple's devices...
@[email protected] yeah, The @[email protected] #FrameworkDesktop is a major let-down to me because it's just *a "shittier #MacStudio"* and #SolderedDownRAM is not excuseable at that form factor! - Seriously, *just no*!
@jacqueline @valpackett Just saying that I've had enough systems' RAM fail due to age & use and not overclocking (wasn't possible in most systems even if one wanted to) or misconfiguration.
@valpackett @jacqueline I've had RAM go bad few times over the last 15 years and <10 computers I or my family owned.
Mind you, it was never that the bad RAM would show up in memtest, only an occasional system crash under load that would stop happening once I resorted to pulling out RAM sticks one-by-one, so most people just assume their computer is toast and too hard too diagnose or repair.
That said, "repairing" is minority use-case, majority of times you need it to fight planned obsolescence
