Watching #KDrama #BrewingLove and having an "I know I know him" moment. This is bound to be full Picard double facepalm, but could any kind #KDrama peeps tell me who this is - playing the young version of the FL's Dad?
@ronsboy67 his name is Kim Jae-Min, and so far it's his only acting credit. But he kind of resembles Lee Joon-Gi.
@dnkboston Double thanks - for supplying his name sand for making me feel better about not being sure who he was. It could've been Lee Joon Gi (younger) that I was thinking of
@ronsboy67 he looked like someone I'd seen before as well!
@dnkboston I wouldn't be surprised if I've seen him very recently in an uncredited bit part, tbh.
@ronsboy67 I use asianwiki.com for references. They're pretty good about minor roles, even if unnamed.

@dnkboston Yes, they had an actor from DNA Lover listed when no one else did.

It's been disappointing to see Dramawiki fall off the pace. They were the non plus ultra back in the day, but the last two 2024 #KDrama I've watched aren't even listed there at all.

@ronsboy67 i have access to some things from Hoopla, which apparently are so niche even asianwiki.com misses them. But a lot of times Wikipedia will have *something*

@dnkboston When in doubt, I search for the name in Hangul. It worked with Kim Jae-Min 😀

Several theatre credits, and his network is all theatre people, so Brewing Love might be his first TV credit. Given that several actors I follow on Insta are active in theatre I might have seen him in an 'uncredited' shot there. 😀

공연의 모든 것 - 플레이DB

@ronsboy67 good tactic! I usually think when an actor who isn't 19 comes from out of nowhere they have a theater background.
@dnkboston The reverse is also increasingly true, sadly. Established actors, especially females with singing backgrounds like Bang Min Ah, are transitioning to musical theatre as TV roles dry up.
@ronsboy67 oh jeez. Is there enough theater work to support that?
@dnkboston For the bigger names, it seems so. The SK theatre scene seems more vibrant than TV at the moment, if my insta feed is within a parsec of being representative
@ronsboy67 I read a few years ago that for musical theater, it's pretty exclusive. But hopefully not the case for the rest of it
@dnkboston Musical theatre being somewhat exclusive makes sense in a way - actors need to also be able to sing. Given the hellish nature of KPop idol life, it's kinda nice if some of them get to cash in on stage in their 30s after a few years on TV
@ronsboy67 I don't see kpop singers as much as actors like Cho Seung-Woo and Lee Kyoo-Hyung
@dnkboston Those actors have long established theatre careers, the actors I was referring to are more recent theatre debutantes, like Bang Min Ah (Girl's Day), Kwon Yuri (SNSD), Bang Min Ah's Girl's day seonbae Park So Jin (whose husband is also a theatre actor), and a few others.
@ronsboy67 glad there's life after kpop!
@dnkboston In the case of Bang Min Ah and Kwon Yuri, they've used their time in TV well to grow their acting talents, especially Bang Min Ah. Park So Jin is shining in a lot of very interesting supporting roles in #KDrama too, very varied characters, no doubt a delight for an actor .
@ronsboy67 @dnkboston
I grew up with West '60' s Pop, further into West. Classic. And still further into Korean/ Asian.
Haegeum and Gayageum and their siblings in other Asian regions !
Our German Mom often watched German operettes on Dutch TV filmed from live-stage.
I would like to see that happening with musicals on Korean stage.
Kim Tae Ri, as an experienced theater-player almost made TV 4-dimensonal with Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born.
Studios seem to discover that "theater" extra ?
