WashPost opinion editor resigns after Jeff Bezos announces changes to Opinion section

Bezos is reshaping The Post's opinion coverage, which has focused on politics and policy for decades.

Axios
@axios @briankrebs As someone with a degree in Journalism, after last year’s cancelling of endorsements I kept paying for WaPo to support the Journalist. This is the last straw, will be canceling now.

@axios And yet, we see this crap:

Massive encroachment by Jeff Bezos into The Washington Post's opinion section today — makes clear dissenting views will not be published or tolerated there," The Post's chief economics reporter Jeff Stein posted on X. "I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side of coverage, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know."

Why legitimize X as a platform for journalism AT ALL? Don't make your stand at the nazi bar.

@briankrebs oh @axios won’t see this comment from you, because this isn’t an account they set up and control. It’s just a relay from X that someone set up so we’d be able to see headlines.

As a former Axios employee, I’ve sent messages to old colleagues pointing out that their click-through numbers for X will be falsified by people clicking through on here.

@maco @axios Thanks. Oh well. I'm used to shouting in the wind :)
@maco @briankrebs @axios that’s like counting the total number of of current Titanic passengers by including the ones on the lifeboats and the ones floating dead in the ice water. “Our passenger numbers are higher than ever!” (It’s sad when the people in charge of statistical analysis are victims of confirmation bias.)

@axios #Bezos announces Washington Pravda.

Everything the ministry wants you to think. Nothing more.

@axios Legacy media slowly killing itself. Oh well.
@axios Personal liberties for trans people or pregnant women, or... nah?
@axios what‘s next? Only comics in the opinion section or only coverage of the weather?
@axios This is censorship whether it's self censorship and oligarchical conformity or government pressure this is not America.
@axios or...buy your own damn paper
@axios I wish I could cancel my subscription a second time
@axios This is the second time in a day (the first being the dystopian changes to Alexa's AI) that I regret having cancelled my Amazon bc I can't fucking double nay triple cancel it.
The only way to make Bezos look decent is by putting him next to Musk.
@axios The article doesn’t quote Shipley’s final words to Bezos, but hopefully they were, “FUCK no, you bald sack of shit!” I regret that I was never subscribed to WaPo, ‘cause I missed out on the opportunity to cancel that subscription over this shit. But WaPo hasn’t been fit for wiping my ass with for years.
