Do people really try Linux after you suggest it?

@itsfoss
And it's better this way.
Because, if they do, you would be personally responsible for every real or perceived flaw in any software.
I had friendships nearly broken because of that.
I don't suggest anything, it's "use your brain or pay in money, data, dependency".
And there is no support to be had from me.
@itsfoss tried getting a friend to use Linux, they said they couldn't handle it and windows was better, any windows issues they had I no refused to try solve.
@Mek75 It is weird, but nowadays I feel like Windows is harder to use for beginners than Linux... I would advice Linux Mint more than windows to them... But issue is that everyone uses windows, works ask for windows, software are on windows, and knowing nothing they believe it is simpler.
@Mek75 Also, they are not conscious about the spyware things and don't want to have control, avoid online account, etc... like we do...
They are told if their computer doesn't work anymore with win11, it is because their computer is too old, like "you can't do anything" and believe it... I am speaking to people who don't even know that onedrive is online, so....
@Mek75 and Microsoft seems to use that ! I asked win10 to not connect to my online account (I already used the trick to get a local account, and was mad it was so hard). According to parameters, it should have been fully offline. and yet, when I changed my online account password, I got a "critical security error" in windows that it couldn't connect anymore !
@Mek75 I was like "how is that a critical security error ?" but the beginner will believe that, panic, reconnect... And when I migrated to win10, microsoft support told my my screen was too old, my graphic card too and I had no solution but change hardware (false, you can use generic driver, I made it work in win10) +
@Mek75 they even told be that AZERTY was not supported at all anymore in Chinese IME (false again, but you need to go in register... it is supported in the same way it was on wn7). But all of my friends, not knowing that, where typing Chinese in Qwerty (on AZERTY keyboard) on purpose... (also I was chocked to hear "oh we decided to not support Azerty anymore" :o )
@Mek75 However this makes me think that that part was harder to set on linux (needed documentation and harder install/setting than on linux, also the microsoft IME is quite good)

@itsfoss

I got my elderly mother to use linux. I do help out sometimes.

@itsfoss no they don't. They think is a "conspiracy". But after they see themselves with it on their computer, they wake up.
@itsfoss Honestly i don't think so XD
@itsfoss They can't install it. But when I gave people devices with Linux on it, they were perfectly happy. They only use Firefox and LibreOffice anyway.

@itsfoss Sadly, no. I had a lot of "I already tested it (like 15 years ago) and I don't like terminal/I didn't like that distro/I had one bug with Ubuntu and gave up".

I really get that "I already tested it" a lot, like it wasn't changing over the years....
