#SexWorker activists often use the phrase "canary in the cole mine" to express how legislation against #SexWork is a test before rolling out more authoritarian measures to wider sections of the population. Never has this rung so true to me as with tech. Sex workers across the globe have had to develop tech harm reduction strategies based on US laws like #FOSTA #SESTA and discriminatory practices from #SiliconValley #BigTech companies for years now. Suddenly, with the new US administration, all of the privacy and security issues that activists have been warning about for years are coming into the forefront.
It's time to overthrow the tech lords.
