Amid shortages of air traffic controllers & fatal aircraft events, the Trump administration has purged several hundred FAA employees. Casual detail: the firing email came from a Microsoft email address, not a .gov one. Trump fires FAA air traffic control staff, just weeks after DC crash

The Trump administration has begun firing several hundred Federal Aviation Administration employees, upending staff on a busy air travel weekend and just weeks after a fatal midair collision near Washington. Probationary workers were targeted in late-night emails Friday notifying them they had been fired. That's according to David Spero, president of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists union. One air traffic controller told The Associated Press the fired workers include personnel hired for FAA radar, landing and navigational aid maintenance. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says fewer than 400 FAA employees were fired and “Zero air traffic controllers and critical safety personnel were let go.”

@kottke So Microsoft is now firing Govt employees too?
@kottke In any decent IT setup I'd have expected the scam/spam protection to have taken care of those emails so that the employees didn't even see them.
@kottke
If you're a government employee and get such an email from a non-government address shouldn't you assume it's a scam and report it to IT?

@kottke
When I was a lowly teacher in a UK school scheduled for closure our local govt employer sent a senior manager to explain our rights and their redeployment policy. Many years later when a small company wanted rid of me I got a letter from a lawyer, an offer of compensation and three months paid leave to consider my options. In a civilised society these are considered normal.
