Morning listening:

Jupiter & Okwess - Ekoya
https://airfono.bandcamp.com/album/ekoya

high energy Congolese funk/rock/soukous, but recorded in Mexico and bringing some of that sonic palette into the mix

Highly recommended for an energy boost

Apparently I'm just posting my listening this morning.

#NowListening:

Xhosa Cole - On a Modern Genius, vol. I
https://xhosacole.bandcamp.com/album/on-a-modern-genius-vol-1

All #TheloniousMonk tunes, all live.

First impressions: Mostly straight-ahead takes with a sax/drums/guitar/bass line-up, but with tap dancing for added percussion -- which is cool, but not sure how much it actually adds here. Nevertheless, good playing so far, and I like a sax/guitar quartet ensemble.

Actually, the tap dancing serves "Rhythm-a-ning" quite well.

Such a good tune.

FWIW, Wikipedia has a solid annotated list of major Monk compositions, sorted alphabetically, with mini-histories of the tune including first recordings:
