Settling in for #SlyLives on #Hulu - praying for few talking heads, lots of historical footage, interviews only with folks who are relevant, please.

Might post random Sly observations here, as it rolls.

D'angelo asks Quest: why ask why, yoda? There is no why, you know that.

The yoda reference stretches all the way back to their time together working on Voodoo and other Soulquarians records. Most of their star wars refs weren't on record but were very evident in live shows and interviews.

Ok, awesome breakdown of Dance to the Music --- smartest part of the film so far. #SlyLives
Very cool use of Everyday People to show the band's composition through iteration, with studio crosstalk and rehearsals to boot.
Wait, did #Common get his crochet look of the early '00s from Stand-era Sly's crocheted hats?

"a pile of blow and a pinch of mescaline" helped power the woodstock show

Kneejerk laugh - it's a good line, funny image - and then immediate regret for laughing, bc we've seen this movie, too

Weird break of chronology to detour to Sly's influence on Prince... 100% valid but just a weird break in fhe flow

Same detour in breaking down the "thanku..." Sample in Janet's Rhythm Nation, but that made a bit more sense...

Although, this might be a recurring motif, intentionally breaking the chronology as time goes on?

Some great concise lines to capture his genius, but calling "Thank You for Talkin' to Me Africa" chopped and screwed before chopped and screwed is super smart.

After the woodstock show, the story is just a steady slide into sadness, which stinks bc of course we still get classics -- three, imo, bc yes I count Small Talk, 100%.

But this is actually a bit hard to watch.

(not sure why i decided to reply to my top post rather than thread replies here, but i feel like it's too late to change now lol)

Overall, this was good, maybe very good. Really strong steady pace, lots of historical footage and some audio I hadn't seen/heard before.

More talking heads than I normally want, but mostly smartly chosen, very relevant.

Using D'Angelo and Andre 3000 so much was smart, as they are good examples of the phenomenon Quest is trying to describe.

I would have liked much more on the making of Riot and Fresh, but there's a lot that could have received more treatment.

I did think the film handles the drugs piece well, including its effects on those around Sly.
