YouTube is 20 years old now. Just look how enshittifed its become now with over production and a platform for corporate entities.
From 2005, originally a dating site launched in February 14th 2005, but then eventually became a regular video platform by the end of the year in 2005, and slogan use to be "Broadcast Yourself™" it use to have Star Ratings as opposed to Like and Dislike buttons, and videos weren't dictated by algorithms, but instead how popular a video was and the star ratings they had. You use to have Video Replies, and it would show up under a video.
By November 13, 2006 Google then purchases YouTube for $1.65 billion. The site remained relatively unchanged for the most part for a number of years after the Google buyout, more Google integrations started happening around 2007 and 2008, a lot of people hated the new Google integrations at the time when they eventually created Google Plus and integrated that to the platform which was the start of the bigger controversial changes of the platform.
