"Waterloo Bridge, Sunlight Effect," Claude Monet, c. 1900.
Monet needs no introduction.
This was painted during, or soon after, one of his multiple trips to London. The fogs that strike the city fascinated him with their power to diffuse light, and he sought to capture that in a series of depictions of London landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament and London Bridge.
And lawdy, all that purple!
