I think today's dose of Doctorow (or @pluralistic , if you prefer) may well be more relevant than most.

We MUST make informed decisions and harbour informed opinions. If we go about uninformed, we end up with both our feet in our mouths.

Which is something the left has been doing a LOT in what concerns the internet as a whole.

@jorgecandeias @pluralistic When I think about how I picked digital cultures as my field of study bc I wanted something safely obscure & out of the way🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Went w/digital sociolinguistics topic for my diss (mid-2010s) & can't remotely convey how depressing it was to watch speech patterns in far-right disinfo take shape on social media in real time. Spent 2020 just shouting into the void. SIGH.
@sarah_geri @jorgecandeias @pluralistic interesting field! Any approachable reads for an outsider?
@fabriziob @jorgecandeias @pluralistic It's over a decade old now, but I think Deborah Tannen's "The Medium Is the Metamessage" still holds up well & is extremely accessible (I'd read it for fun, personally, but I've also taught it to college freshmen).
