My friends and I started playing again recently, trying to de-rust in preparation for Wilds.
Which a side complaint: of all the names they could have possibly chosen why would they choose another ‘W’ for the name
The W name feels intentional to me- they didn’t want to call it World 2 but it works for people abbreviating it MHW2.

anakin78zI bought it a few months back. Looking at my play time, I guess I didn’t care for it too much. Oh well, I guess it’s better to buy that on sale and see if you like it, than plopping down more money when the new one comes out.
Worlds and Wilds feel very very different from each other. Playing the years-older game to judge the new one doesn’t make sense.
Instead, I’d recommend trying out the beta. The last session will be from Feb 13 - Feb 16.
I played the game to death on PS4 up until MH Rise came out on Switch. I didn’t get a PS5 but do have an XBox Series X.
Monster Hunter Wilds has palico costume bonuses if you have save files for World and Iceborne. Buuut, I can’t transfer my save files between PS4 and XBox.
I just recently purchased the World/Iceborne for Xbox on sale for like 20 bucks. Now, you might say to me that it’s silly for me to re-buy the game just for some extra cosmetics. And yeah, you’d be right. But you have to play through certain parts of World and Iceborne to be eligible for the bonuses. Which means I started a new save file and am going to play through it.
I’ve fallen in love with MH World all over again.
FOMO may have me by the balls, but at least I’m having fun with it.
I bought it with iceborne when it was on sale recently on steam, I had a copy for PS4 but I’ve transitioned to just PC games at this point.
