I am trying to buy a new washer dryer and I am being advertised machines with “AI”.

From the description of the functionality, this is only AI in the way that they used to talk about 8-bit videogame bosses having AI.

If anything, I want less AI: I want appliances to do exactly what I tell them to do. I do not want improv and riffing. I do not want it to have frolics of its own. I want it to go through these cycles in this time and at this temperature and then to stop.
@[email protected] Often it's just a gimmick anyway. I doubt very much my washing machine has a neural net and fuzzy logic. It's going to have a lookup table from the weight-on-drum sensor to a sequence of timings. If the engineers have been really clever it might even sense an imbalance and do some changes of direction to spread the items out.
