If you’re fucking stressed & near the end of your tether, go find your local rec/arts/community center and see what classes they have.

Just an afternoon workshop type class, I’m not even talking to committing to long term classes.

Art, cooking, birdhouse building - whatever you see that makes you go, “I’ve wanted to try that!”

It gets you out of the house, away from your phone, and focused on Something Else. And at the end, you have Made A Thing.

It will be good for you. Ask me how I know.

And just to be clear:

This is not about ignoring the current realities.

This is about the importance to your mental health of spending some focused time on something that has nothing to do with the current shitshow, preferably in some kind of environment where it can’t intrude for a few hours.

This is about giving yourself a positive mental break, so you have what you need in the tank to deal with the shitshow.

We have a local #makerspace near us, and I wish more places across the country had access to a place like it. I've taken one-off classes there, and it's always a good thing to do, even if I don't do anything with that subject ever again.
@cafechatnoir yep, if you’re in the USA - get into it before they’re cancelled too
@cafechatnoir "afternoon workshop type class" – accidental #haskell
@cafechatnoir or find a non profit in need of help and volunteer - double win.

@kakurady Man, I wish we had those easily available. I think we only have a handful of community centers with classes and most are all the way downtown here. I don't even have a rec center or community center within 5 miles of me.

Honestly, this just gives me yet another reason I need to get out of Austin, it's like living in a hell of contradiction because everyone wants services but doesn't want to pay taxes for them.
