“At the end of the day, trans people are less than 1% of the population and trans people are not the reason you can’t afford eggs, that you can’t afford healthcare. We’re not the reason you can’t buy a house or your rent’s too high. I think they’re focused on the wrong 1%. I think the other one percent is the reason for all those things.”

- Trans actor Laverne Cox

Ironically, the only news source where I could find her quote was FOX News!

Trans actor tells 'The View' that Trump's executive orders on gender are 'illegal'

Transgender actor Laverne Cox condemned President Trump's executive orders regarding trans individuals during an appearance on "The View" on Friday.

Fox News
@augieray wouldn't you say "actress"?
@Pandora Not sure what's right here, but "actor" is considered a gender-neutral term in modern usage. Actress is not.
@augieray since it's Laverne Cox, yes, it is correct to say 'actress'.
@Pandora @augieray "Actor" is now accepted for all, because many women feel adding -ess to the end of words that already means "person doing this job" is pointless at best and reducing women's achievements at worst. Making jobs more gendered also leaves less room for non-binary people, and unisex words already exist ending in -er or -or (such as lawyer or tailor). One can say "add -ess to my job", but it can come across as "call me a woman, not a person" does. Hope this clears things up.
@mycelialinn @Pandora @augieray all of this is true AND Fox News taking the cheap shot at trying to misgender her while still being pathetically bad at it all at the same time.
@unfmeghan @mycelialinn @Pandora FOX News may have intended to misgender her. I notice they use the term "actress" in other articles. On the other hand, I had no intention of misgendering her, because my understanding is that "actor" is now the preferred gender-neutral term for everyone who acts.
@augieray I strongly disagree with the "masculine=neutral" bullshit that, as a native French speaker, French being a heavily binary-gendered language, I do not buy.
