More than 200.000 people protesting in Munich against the current right shift in politics, the far right and anti-immigrant fervour - as in other cities across Germany.

Something telling I notice, deeply disappointing I have to say, is how some leaders of Germany's conservative party - likely to lead Germany's next government - have been reacting to these demonstrations also against their flirtations with the illiberal hard right: with notable derision and contempt. That says a lot.

The conservatives' leader and likely next chancellor, Merz, reacted in an interview saying: "I take [the protests] seriously. But as the last remaining popular party we will not let demonstrators change our course."

How arrogant is that? Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating across Germany and he, supposedly leading against extremism, dismisses them with arrogance? While admitting that their anti-far right message is not his "course"? While claiming to be the only remaining mainstream? What!?

Hannover - tens of thousands for democracy and against the far right.
@W_Lucht Genau diese Proteste fanden auch in hunderten kleinerer Orte mit ebenfalls zehntausenden von TeilnehmerInnen statt.
