Another take on screen culture and fascism.

“The smartphone did not invent social estrangement, of course. What it invented is an interface that allows us to experience active, productive individuality—messaging, scrolling, liking—while minimizing direct social connectedness and accountability, even when we are crowded among strangers.”

@xankarn

I don’t believe that living in a magic virtual world denying real life leads to less accountability. This is magical thinking and helps dictators to realize their agenda.

@xankarn ignorant generation?

@saliaku @xankarn generation?? People of all ages have smartphones. People of all ages voted Trump, are right-wing xenophobes - the cartoon fails to acknowledge that people also CONNECT via the Internet, that we can meet others and learn from them. We can unlearn hate just as much as some have learned it.
I strongly disagree with the categorisation.

The problem is algorithm-driven content and some being so influenced by them. We can still use the Internet to better ourselves. Many do.

@noodlemaz the problem is also people just taking the most convenient and available option without considering not-immediate effects. @saliaku @xankarn
@xankarn THANK GOD I HAVE A DUMBPHONE AND A TABLET TOO BIG TO WALK WITH...
@xankarn my assumption in the past as facebook started out and we started to talk about boubles. I was telling everyone that we'll see a big shift for radicalized groups no matter what part of the spectrum terrorists fascists radical religious radical thinking with all that corona stuff. Imho the one who blame the most is big tech and people suporting them for years after years. Techies looking up to all that "cool" tech which is basically taking the power from the user and the techies. My point is this picture is really really accurate and reflects the current state of our society :( and the worst part it doesn't look as if its getting better.
@xankarn Thing is, all those phone screens show this cartoon.

@xankarn

.. The kids know almost nothing else, they grow up with it. Both parents work in most families and yet the money is not enough for a nanny or domestic help. Then the money is not enough for a proper day care center or there is none at all. Grandparents often live far away and then our intensive urge for individualism is still there. Hardly anyone has time to deal with their children extensively.

The ranking of us adults today is:
1. Job
2. Car
3. Shopping
4. Social Media
5. Children.

Every day in elementary school I have to experience how much the children look for attention but also how well they are doing when they find an adult who also answers their questions outside of lessons and explains things to them.

Maybe all of us adults should take the children's questions more seriously and also invest a little more time and patience in them?

Let's ask ourselves:
What is my own perception of young people?
Am i ready to give them 100% attention in the encounter?

.. and don't worry, they do not bite and when their questions are answered, they go their own way again.

But these moments are essential and important!

.. and please
DON'T dare to talk about "ignorant generations" because THAT'S ignorant!
