Measles outbreak expands in West Texas around county with low vaccination rate

A measles outbreak is growing in a rural area of West Texas where vaccination rates are well below the recommended level.

@GottaLaff if you're older than, say 60 or so, I think it would be a very good idea to get re-upped with your measles vax.

@tersenurse Why would they shut down the schools?

These people are the kind that have "measles" parties to make sure all the kids get it ...

@GottaLaff don't worry.. once the schools are shut down, the kids won't be able to transmit it to each other
@scaramanga Right, because kids never play together in neighborhoods.🤨
@GottaLaff I feel sad for the children who will get sick; adults who choose not to vaccinate, not so much.
@Jgmeadows @GottaLaff It's never the anti-vaxxers that suffer the most. It's always the poor, the young, the old, and the sick. Most healthy adults survive the measles, so they think it's no big deal.
@GottaLaff I keep thinking about the kids who never got vaccines, because of the lies about autism, developed autism anyway, and are now at risk of ending up deaf or blind too. And their parents will get no help taking care of them from this regime, run by a man who thinks disabled people should just die.
@GottaLaff What a terrible time for such an outbreak to occur…

@GottaLaff

Even tho you hate the saying, I really think you need to consider that Laffy stands for

Leopards
Ate
Fascist
Faces
YoureWelcomeBye

You can replace Fascist with a different F word if you prefer.

@GottaLaff Enjoy your shingles in your autumn years Texans...

@GottaLaff

Yup. If only the MAGA Senators had a shred of self-interest to protect their own health - then they'd reject RFK Jr and boost vaccination programs to prevent this kind of unnecessary suffering. But no. Stupidity seems to be the order of the day. Bringing back deadly, communicable diseases to gut the population is preferable to embracing science apparently. Idiots.

It didn't have to be this way if the electorate wasn't so stupid.

@goodreedAJ The cowardice, greed, and lust for power is insane.

@GottaLaff @goodreedAJ They think because they can afford special medical care. it doesn't matter if they get sick.

<reality doesn't work that way>

@GottaLaff I just got bloodwork to test my titers for measles, mumps, and rubella. I’m happy to report that my immunity is well above the minimum for all, likely because I got an MMR booster around 2015 after the Disney outbreak.
@GottaLaff Ha. TG for small favors, amirite?
@PamelaBarroway But it’s a huge one.
@GottaLaff Indeed. I was going to get a pneumonia and second shingles vax separately in the next week, but I’m so freaked out I think I’m going to get them together today.
@PamelaBarroway Ugh, don’t couple up shingles with anything. The reaction is strong, you’ll possibly feel even worse.
@GottaLaff You know what? You’re right — the first shingles vax in Nov knocked me on my ass. I’ll get the pneumonia one today and shingles later this week.
@GottaLaff
Who are they gonna blame when the children start dying?
@GottaLaff Where about in West Texas?
@BagOfNails Did you read the article?

@GottaLaff

Well duh! Thanks for getting me back into the present time.
