Replication and cooking is a tried and tested metaphor. The Youtube Channel "Answer in Progress" is taking this a step further. They ask about the value of the "intro paragraphs" of recipe websites, where food writes share bits of their lives and personal experiences to add flavour to the recipes 1/
They conclude that some of the tips and tricks in these paragraphs are instrumental to the process (ie. should be in the protocol), but that a lot of the context, both personal and cultural histories, helps with the interpretation of the recipe (protocol): www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvC2... 2/

i actually read the essay before the recipe, here's why

Finally, they even test recipes to see whether the "naked" transfer of a detailed protocol works and end up in the situation where the recipe-writer has to step in and assist (as if I was reading Harry Collins again). 3/
They do all that without ever mentioning #replication #tacitknowledge or #metascience - purely in the context of knowledge transfer ( #STS ). And curry. Of course 4/4
