of course i don't read korean don't be silly
I was working on a video about text hooking renpy games and I got distracted

I actually did find an English translated Korean indie VN on Stove that doesn't seem to be available anywhere else, a free, very short horror game called "No Gaze."

Worth checking out if that's your jam! The story is pretty typical as these "students disappearing in a creepy school at night" things go, but it does some neat things with art and the interface. The fact that the video feed on your phone of your friend walking around the school is actually animated with the camera moving around the hallway seems like such a simple detail, but I found it really surprising and effective.

Ending spoilers in next post, because I am kinda confused there and I'd love if someone else played this and could discuss it with me!

No Gaze - English Version | STOVE 스토어

Someone's watching me. The second I realized it, it was already too late to turn back.

STOVE
The ending is so abrupt that I honestly thought it was a bug and went looking through the scripts to check.... It's not a bug, but I did see something interesting: the image of the classmate at the end, which I found a really jarring art style mismatch especially considering the art direction in the rest of the game, is called "you.png." So I think it's supposed to be, like, a fourth wall break where you, the player, are judging the protagonist's actions? But I don't see how you're supposed to pick that up and I don't find that a very satisfying ending anyway? It's a short enough game that I'm not mad at it for wasting my time, and I still think it's worth checking out for the art direction, I just don't really know what to make of the point of it all.
