How do you respond to folks that refer to non-disabled people as “normal users”?
How do you respond to folks that refer to non-disabled people as “normal users”?
@racheled “Let’s not group users in ’normal‘ and ’not normal‘ users, because that’s quite problematic. We say ’users with‘ and ’without disabilities‘, because that more accurately describes what we mean and also helps to not accidentally ’other‘ some of the userbase.”
(Replace “users with disabilities” with “disabled users” as needed, of course.)
@racheled oof. What's your relationship to them?
I can think of many ways I would tease someone I work closely with - but tricky of it's someone you're trying to score a contract with or something.
I might be like "careful with that language, it might imply you think of disabled people as abnormal".
